What's It All About?

The Junior Indoor Bouldering Championships is a unique event which rewards young competitive climbers for their dedication, their passion and their talents as the future stars of competitive climbing. To that end, we have created an event that combines the elements of prestigious national and pro level events--media coverage, high-quality route-setting, a premier format, other special events, and financial assistance in the form of a cash & gear Scholarship Purse--all designed exclusively for junior competitive climbers.

How Can I Qualify for the Championships?

The JIBS event this year will be open registration to all junior climbers under the age of 18!

However, the overall winners of the entire Series in each category will be determined by their Final Series Rating for the year...a number based on their performance in all JIBS events for that year. So, in addition to awards for their placement in the Championships, climbers with the best Final Series Rating in each category will receive additional awards--and Scholarship prizes!--for being the Junior Indoor Bouldering Series Champions!

To obtain a Final Series Rating a competitor must compete in at least two pre-lims and the Finals.

Registration will open on February 15, 2016 for our championship event on March 12-13, 2016.

If you would like more information on registering for JIBS,  please contact us at info@juniorbouldering.com.

The format for Pre-lims will be Redpoint. Competitors will be scored on their best 5 problems under JIBS Standard Rules.  The Top 10 climbers from 12-14 and 15+ age groups, and Top 6 from the 11- age group, will advance to Finals.

Finals will be a modified World Cup format. Climbers will climb 4 problems with 4 minutes of climbing time and 4 minutes of rest in between. Climbers will be scored based on the highest point reached on each problem, using falls to break ties. In the case of a tie on all problems in finals, the competitors ranking in the preliminary round will be used to break the tie.

Pro Clinics - How to Flash Your Problems

    • On Sunday, March 13, from 10am to 12pm, work with routesetters, professional climbers and some of the best climbing coaches around on the skills necessary to flash your hardest problems! During this clinic climbers will get hands on experience and expert guidance from the routesetters themselves on the tricks they must master to read problems and avoid getting spit off. In addition, additional experts on competition tactics, mental preparation, technique and training will be on hand to offer insights on how to maximize your chances for a send!
    • Previous Years JIBS instructors have included:
    • Dino Liddick—Former Head Routesetter for JIBS and the PRG, veteran setter of 8 Regional Championships, 2 Divisionals & more than a dozen Pro comps.
    • Vasya Vorotnikov--La Sportiva Team Athlete, World Cup Bouldering competitor.
    • David Rowland--JIBS Founder,  Program Director of Team PRG (including four Youth National & Continental Champions)
    • Randi Goldberg--Level II USAC Certified Coach, Team PRG Head Coach.

  • How do I sign up? The Sunday Clinics and Dyno Comp are open to all competitors and spectators for the JIBS Champs--though space is limited! All climbers with a Full Weekend Registration will have access to both. In addition other climbers may sign up for the clinics on a first come, first served basis at starting Friday, February 15.
